For those with long memories, I posted earlier this year that I was getting a Lowden and a McCollum guitar built for me on a quid pro quo basis. I reported on the Lowden back in September. Well, now the McCollum is here.
Details...built from my wood, an aged Italian spruce top and a Braz RW body, fingerboard, bridge and headstock all from the same piece of Brazilian (estimated at 50 years old). Lance added flamed koa binding with green edge lines, green abalone purfling, a 5 piece neck of mahogany, flamed koa and a walnut center strip, and one of his signature rosettes. It's a GA cutaway with a 25.7 scale, 1 3/4" nut and 2 1/4" saddle all tuned up with Gold/ebony Gotoh 510 tuners.
The sound? Do you NEED to ask?
Here are some pics.. just wish I was a photograher.

Talk about a nice Christmas present!

Hank,
I do remember that. You are one lucky guy, and I'm so jealous! Both of those guitars are made by top builders, and each has such a signature sound. What a real blessing to own one of each. This McCollum looks fantastic! Congrats on that score, and enjoy!

I've always admired Lance's design sense and his tone is great. Those
rosettes are some of my favorites in the world.

Great guitars coming from a person of integrity who has been a strong
force in the lutherie community longer than alot of us have been in it.

Beautiful guitar...Congrats!

Nice, Hank! Interesting, isn't it, that people who can build beautiful guitars can still have GAS? I, for one, wouldn't mind having a Mauel (er...not that I can build my own beauty to compare )!CarltonM39072.6559259259

Oh my God, this is so beautiful! I'm adding my name to the list of jealous and envious!

What a nice looking instrument, love the wood, the cutaway and that outstanding rosette!
